Day Ride - Mormon Lake Lodge

This is a place that has eluded us for a while, finally, we made it. It was worth it. Our route:

We headed out from Surprise, up to Wickenburg and Prescott via Skull Valley. From Prescott into Prescott Valley, (wanted to check out the Harley dealer) and to I17N. From there to Camp Verde across 260 to 87 to Lake Mary Road and to Mormon Lake Rd.

Now our ride: Nice easy pace up to Prescott. We went through town and down 69, the long way but we had to look at what we can’t have at the Harley dealer, restroom break. On to Cordes Jct. Up to Camp Verde, fuel and on to Mormon Lake Lodge. Now, I knew we were going to have some cooler temps and some wind. Well, we had lots and lots of wind. The type that makes your bike go sideways.  We had head winds that even with the throttle wide open, going uphill we were losing ground, downshift…… much better. Even with the winds and much cooler temps than expected, the ride was beautiful. Leaves were changing and the fresh sent of Pine was everywhere. It was nice and clear and the scenery was spectacular.

So many times we take the same route. We miss a lot of things so this way was a change of pace. We decided to head north to Flagstaff of fuel and straight down I17. This is not my favorite road, but time was really flying by. I must say we were having a great time. We decided to go to Western Trails Ranch to watch Professional Bull Riding. We exited on New River Road. It was DARK. Lots of critters so we elected a slower speed and stayed behind someone in a car. Figure they have a better chance of hitting the critter than we do. Headed out Care Free Hwy to WTR. Had some cold cokes, watched some Cowboys get stomped and headed home.

The burgers at Mormon Lake Lodge are about $9.00 bucks to around $12...00. You get your monies worth. You don’t leave hungry. Even with the wind and cold up north, this was still and is a great ride.

We did about 450 miles that day. But it was such an easy ride that we did not even realize it. We left Surprise around 09:00. We were at Western Trails Ranch by 7:30 PM.

Another great Arizona ride.
